What Is n2pdf?
n2pdf is a specialized solution for HCL Notes and Domino that converts content from Notes documents into structured PDF or PDF/A files.
Companies that have relied on Notes applications for many years often manage large volumes of structured information, documents, and emails. n2pdf makes it possible to transfer this content into a standardized and durable document format without changing the existing application or data structure.
Unlike simple print-based solutions, n2pdf creates PDF files directly from the internal Notes data structures. This preserves important properties such as document structure, formatting, and links. The result is a high-quality PDF document that is suitable both for exchange with external partners and for archiving processes or compliance requirements.
The architecture of n2pdf supports use both in the Notes client and on the Domino server. This means PDF generation can either be triggered interactively by users or integrated fully automatically into business processes.
Why PDF?
PDF has become the global standard for electronic documents. Companies use PDF files to exchange documents with customers, partners, and public authorities because the format can be displayed independently of operating system, application, or device. Once created, a PDF document looks the same on every system and retains its structure and layout over time.
In enterprise environments, the long-term availability of information is equally important. The standardized archive format PDF/A was developed specifically for audit-proof long-term archiving and ensures that documents can still be read reliably many years later. For organizations that need to archive or document their Notes data, conversion to PDF or PDF/A therefore provides a secure and future-proof solution.
